How to send a demo to a tech house label

A good demo gets listened to. Here is what helps a track stand out when it arrives at a tech house label.

Five things that help

  1. Send a finished track. A clean master in WAV or high quality MP3 is enough for a first listen. Rough ideas and unfinished drafts are harder to judge.

  2. Make the first minute count. Tech house listeners decide quickly, so a strong groove and a clear hook early in the track help.

  3. Keep the message short. Write the artist name, the track title, one line about the track and a working link. Two or three sentences about your background are enough.

  4. Check your links. Make sure the download or streaming link works and that the track can be played without a password.

A finished track gets a fair listen. A rough idea gets a skip.

Which file should I send?

A WAV or high quality MP3 works, as long as it is the final version of the track.

Hold off until the track is finished. An idea that is still being built is hard to judge on a first listen.
